This glass negative is titled for Princess August Wilhelm of Germany, a member of the Prussian royal household by marriage to a son of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied newspapers with photographs in the early twentieth century, made the negative, but the record gives no date, and the title comes from caption information that has not been verified. Even so, the picture offers a glimpse of how German royalty was photographed and circulated to American readers in that period.
