The Bain News Service caption names this subject Catherine Britton, a princess of Germany, but the name was recorded without verification, so the identification deserves caution. George Grantham Bain founded the New York agency in the early 1900s to supply newspapers with photographs of public figures and current events, and its captions were often written quickly from information sent in by editors or the sitters themselves.
