The caption naming this pair as a princess and a man called Otto comes from the Bain News Service and is unverified, and the record gives no date or setting. The glass negative belongs to George Grantham Bain's New York news photo agency, which operated from about 1899 into the early 1930s and supplied pictures of public figures and current events to newspapers. Glass plates like this one were the standard working medium of press photographers before flexible film became common, so the negative also shows how such pictures were made and filed.
