A coyote stands among the rock-walled channels of the Dalles of the St. Croix, where the river squeezes through a rugged gorge near Taylors Falls, Minnesota. Keystone View Company, the Meadville, Pennsylvania firm that produced large numbers of stereographs for home viewers and schools, issued this card around 1929. Coyotes were a familiar but wary presence in the northern Midwest at the time, and an animal caught in such a setting gives the card a sense of the landscape's wildness alongside its scenic appeal.
