Here President William McKinley is shown making a speech at West Superior, Minnesota, a stop on his western tour of 1899. The stereograph was issued by Strohmeyer & Wyman, a New York publisher whose stereo cards were sold widely to households with viewers, so the scene reached people who never saw the president in person. The caption tracings tie the card to the 1900 presidential election, when McKinley sought a second term against William Jennings Bryan. Views like this one show how campaign speeches were recorded and circulated in the period.
