The Fourth Loan poster, issued by the French government in 1918, asked ordinary citizens to lend money to the state to fund the final year of the First World War. France financed much of its war effort through bonds sold to its own people, and the "Défense Nationale" campaigns turned that borrowing into a patriotic duty, with posters urging buyers to see their savings as a contribution to victory. Posters like this one combined bold graphic design with emotional appeals, often pairing soldiers or national symbols with slogans about sacrifice and the future. Such images were displayed in streets, railway stations and public buildings, making them one of the most visible forms of wartime propaganda in France.
