The Fourth National Defense Loan poster, issued in France in 1918, is a patriotic call to lend money to the state while the country was still at war. Its title, written in French, names the fourth of the government's wartime bond drives, and the composition leans on the tricolor flags to link private savings with national survival. Wartime loans like this one were a major way France financed its armies, and posters of this kind were pasted on walls and billboards to persuade ordinary citizens to buy bonds.
