Few places in Florida were as exclusive as the Jupiter Island Club, the private clubhouse on a narrow barrier island near Hobe Sound on the state's Atlantic coast. The island was developed as a closed community in the 1930s, and the club became a center of social life for its winter residents. This color halftone was issued around 1951 by the L.L. Cook Co. of Milwaukee, a firm known for printing commercial views of hotels, resorts and clubs for mid-century audiences. Its appeal lies in how it presents a resort landscape as a polished, leisurely ideal of postwar Florida.
