The record names this print a "Centennial mirror," which points to the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, held to mark 100 years since the Declaration of Independence. Its date is not recorded, and the only maker named is American Oleograph Co., an attribution the shelflist card has not verified. Oleographs were colorful, mass-produced lithographic prints that imitated oil paintings and sold cheaply to households, and the Centennial spurred many such souvenir designs. Viewers may want to compare the print's imagery and lettering with documented exhibition souvenirs to judge its origin and purpose.
