A senior officer stands at the center of this Bain News Service picture: Gen. Tasker H. Bliss posed with his staff aboard the U.S. Army transport Kilpatrick. Bliss was Army chief of staff during the First World War and later a U.S. delegate to the Paris Peace Conference, so the photograph likely reflects the period when American forces were being moved overseas, though the record gives no date. The Bain agency was a New York news picture service that supplied newspapers in the early twentieth century, and the title came from the agency's own notes rather than independent verification.
