The sitter is Patrick H. Michener, a name taken from the title on the negative sleeve, which the record describes as unverified. The glass plate is dated to roughly 1921 to 1922, a period when the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., commercial studio, was making large numbers of portraits and street views. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. Streaks and other blemishes may appear on the plate, the result of the original coating breaking down over time.
