The only identifying detail in this record is its title, Tyler, which comes from Bain News Service notations the Library of Congress has not verified, so the name could refer to a person or a place. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a New York agency that began around the turn of the twentieth century and sold news photographs to newspapers across the country. Its glass negative, 5 by 7 inches or smaller, reflects the working format of press photographers of that era, when glass plates gave the sharp detail that newspaper reproduction required. Without a date, the image is best read as one example of the agency's broader output.
