Unlike most Liberty Loan posters, which appealed to readers in English, this lithograph addresses Italian Americans in their own language, urging those of foreign birth to buy Liberty Bonds. The United States entered the First World War in April 1917, and the federal government turned to public borrowing to pay for the war, so campaigns like this one aimed to bring immigrant communities into the effort. Many recent arrivals from Italy had not yet mastered English, and posters in their language helped the Treasury reach them. The print comes from the Willard and Dorothy Straight Collection at the Library of Congress.
