Printed entirely in Hebrew characters with no pictures, this lithograph addresses Americans of foreign birth and asks them to buy Liberty Bonds. The United States entered the First World War in April 1917, and the Treasury relied on a series of Liberty Loan drives to finance the war effort. Campaigns like this one used text in immigrant languages to reach communities that English-language appeals might miss, including the Jewish immigrants whose papers and newspapers used the Hebrew alphabet. The poster shows how the government tried to bring newcomers into the war effort through their own languages.
