Few landforms on Kauai are as recognizable as the Sleeping Giant, a long ridge whose profile resembles a figure lying on his back. This print, credited to Pan Pacific Press and numbered 1570, shows that outline as visitors of the 1930s would have seen it, when island scenery drew growing numbers of tourists. Hawaiian tradition holds that the ridge is a giant who lay down to rest and was turned to stone, a story told by residents for generations. The record gives only the date "193-," so the view is best placed somewhere in that decade.
