Few chamber ensembles of the early 1900s were as well regarded as the Flonzaley Quartet, which this card records under the spelling Flanzaley. Founded in 1902 with support from the wealthy New York patron Edward J. de Coppet, the group performed together for more than two decades and was admired for its tight, balanced ensemble playing. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, made this glass negative, but the record gives no date, and the identification rests on the agency's own unverified caption, so the spelling and the players shown should be treated as provisional.
