A 1924 portrait of Beatrice Kyle, dated April 25 of that year, makes this one a record of a named individual in Washington, D.C., rather than a scene. The print comes from the National Photo Company, a commercial studio active in the capital during the 1910s and 1920s that documented residents, officials and public events for a wide audience. Its negatives and prints were later gathered into a large collection at the Library of Congress, where this example survives with its original caption card and an album notation. Those records make it a useful starting point for anyone tracing Washington portrait photography of the period.
