The dam and lake in this view sit on the Salt River in central Arizona, and both were named for Theodore Roosevelt. The federal Reclamation Service completed the masonry dam in 1911, and Roosevelt dedicated it in person that year. The reservoir stored water for irrigation in the Salt River Valley near Phoenix. Taken from the air around 1916, when aerial photography was still uncommon, the view shows how the lake filled the desert canyon behind the wall.
