This poster announces free day and evening trade and technical classes open to anyone over 17, sponsored by the New York City Board of Education. Printed in silkscreen in 1936, it comes from the Work Projects Administration poster program, which employed artists during the Depression to make public notices for city agencies and federal campaigns. Silkscreen was a fairly new method for posters then, valued for flat, bold color that could be read quickly from a distance. The notice reflects a period when public schools and federal programs were working to train unemployed adults for skilled work.
