This halftone shows the exterior of Glenlloyd, one of the houses Frank Lloyd Wright designed in the Chicago area in the early 1900s. It was published in March 1902 as part of a collection of his work, a format that let architects reach readers far beyond the cities where their buildings stood. Halftone reproduction, which broke photographs into a pattern of dots, was then the standard way to print photographs in books and magazines. Look at the low, wide massing and the emphasis on horizontal lines, features that became central to the Prairie School style Wright developed in these years.
