The Library of Congress notes that this title is unverified, so it should be read as a label, not a confirmed identity. George Grantham Bain founded his news photo agency in New York around 1899, and it supplied pictures to newspapers and magazines for roughly two decades. Glass negatives of this size were the standard working medium of press photographers of that period, so the plate records the camera work of its time even where the subject and occasion are unknown.
