The only identifying detail here is the name Gustav Straubenmiller, which the Library of Congress lists from caption cards and negative markings supplied by the Bain News Service, not from a verified source. The plate is a glass negative of 5 by 7 inches or smaller, a format widely used by press photographers in the early twentieth century, when Bain's agency supplied newspapers with images of people and events. Because the record gives no date or setting, the sitter's identity and the occasion remain uncertain, so the negative is best read as evidence of the agency's working methods and of the glass-plate era.
