A waterfall, a stand of pines and a bear share the cover of this 1906 edition of *Wonderland*, the guidebook the Northern Pacific Railway issued to draw travelers to Yellowstone. The park had been set aside as the first national park in 1872, and by the early 1900s the railroad was one of the main routes to its northern gateway at Gardiner, Montana. The bear is a telling choice, since wildlife, bears especially, was a major attraction for visitors of that era, and the cover presents the park as a place of dramatic scenery and wild animals.
