The title, *6,000 Miles Through Wonderland*, uses the nickname early visitors gave Yellowstone, the park whose geysers, canyons and hot springs drew some of the first American tourists after it was set aside in 1872. Booklets like this were usually printed to promote travel, and their covers were designed to make a long journey west seem like an adventure worth taking. The title suggests the route as much as the destination, a reminder of how tourism and rail travel grew together in the park's early decades.
