This halftone reproduction shows a painted portrait of Elias Boudinot (1740-1821), the New Jersey lawyer who served as president of the Continental Congress in 1782 and 1783. Later he directed the United States Mint from 1795 to 1805 and helped found the American Bible Society in 1816. The record does not name the original painter or the date of the painting, and the caption card's data is unverified. Halftone was the standard method for reproducing paintings in books and periodicals from the late 1800s into the twentieth century, so the print likely reflects that later interest in early national figures.
