Two named sitters, Dr. Curt L. Heymann and Miss Isabel Boniface, are recorded for this glass negative, though the names come from data noted on the negative sleeve and have not been verified. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio active in the early twentieth century, made the negative, and its date of about 1926 is inferred from others in the same range. Glass plates like this one often develop streaks and blemishes as their original coatings deteriorate, so those marks reflect age rather than the scene itself. The negative was given to the Library of Congress by Herbert A. French in 1947.
