Few pictures in the Bain collection are tied as closely to New York's immigrant politics as this glass negative, labeled Meyer London, the Socialist lawyer who won a seat in Congress from the Lower East Side in 1914. London served until 1919, lost his seat in 1918, and returned to Congress after winning again in 1920. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news photographs to newspapers, made the negative. The record gives no date, and the identification rests on caption information that has not been independently confirmed.
