Early automobiles stand parked on a fairgrounds lot in Owosso, a small city in Shiawassee County, Michigan, in a picture dated around 1920. By then the car was moving quickly from novelty to everyday equipment, and county fairs, which drew farm families from miles around, were becoming places people reached by automobile rather than by wagon or train. The scene is worth a close look for its record of parked models and for how fair crowds were beginning to organize around the motorcar.
