Shown here is the illustrator and novelist George du Maurier, whose name appears in the record as "Busson du Baurier," a misspelling of his family name. The caricature was drawn by "Spy," the pen name of Leslie Ward, for *Vanity Fair*, and V. Brooks Day and Son printed this lithograph for the magazine's 1896 volume. Du Maurier had long worked for *Punch*, and his novel *Trilby*, published in 1894, had made him famous on both sides of the Atlantic just before this portrait appeared.
