The caption, "Going to Roosevelt's," most likely refers to Sagamore Hill, the Oyster Bay, Long Island, home where Theodore Roosevelt lived after leaving the presidency in 1909. By 1916 he was a former president and a prominent voice in Republican politics, and his house drew journalists, political allies and curious visitors. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied newspapers with photographs, recorded many scenes of public figures and the people who sought them out. The title comes from the agency's own notes and has not been independently verified, so the exact occasion remains uncertain.
