Few warships of the early twentieth century showed their heavy armament as plainly as HMS *Indomitable*, a British battlecruiser whose 12-inch guns, mounted amidships, dominate this view. Launched in the first decade of the 1900s, she belonged to the Dreadnought era, when navies traded some armor for speed and bigger guns. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, sold images like this one to newspapers, but the record's date is missing, so the exact moment is uncertain. *Indomitable* later fought in the First World War, including the Battle of Dogger Bank in 1915.
