The caption links this glass negative to Rochester's centennial and to a mill called the Indian Allen Mill, though the record gives no date and the title comes from unverified Bain News Service notes. Rochester, New York, grew up around the falls of the Genesee River, where water power drove flour and lumber mills from the early 1800s, so a mill like this would have been a working landmark of the city's early industry. George Grantham Bain's news service supplied photographs of local events and places to newspapers across the country, and negatives like this one preserve that record.
