Few posters on this board announce an exhibition of the unemployed's own skills, and this 1936 silkscreen does so directly, promising a showing of selected work by out-of-work New Yorkers. The Federal theater Project is named as sponsor, and the record also credits Arent Arthur, though the poster's designer is not fully documented. The show sits within the WPA's wider effort to keep artists and craftspeople working during the Depression, when relief employment extended to making art for public view. A September 2, 1938 date stamp on the back shows the sheet was filed and handled two years after it was printed.
