The only identifying detail this negative carries is its title, Yorke, which the Bain News Service recorded on the glass or its caption card. The record does not say whether the name refers to a person, a place or a subject, and the cataloging notes flag the wording as unverified. The plate belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. Bain's New York news service sent photographers to cover events, portraits and street scenes in the early twentieth century, and its negatives were stored and filed in batches, so this plate reflects the everyday work of a commercial press photographer of that era.
