A cloister courtyard under snow is the subject, shown here as a photographic reproduction of a drawing by Carl Friedrich Lessing (1808-1880). Lessing trained in Düsseldorf, a major center of German painting in the nineteenth century, and this print carries the blind stamp of a Düsseldorf photography studio. The original drawing dates to the 1820s, when Lessing was still a young artist, and its German title, *Klosterhof im Schnee*, is written on the back. The Cincinnati Art Museum holds the drawings from which this reproduction was made.
