Among the White House views on this board, this one focuses on the grounds: the caption card names greenhouses and the exterior gardens on the mansion's west side. For much of the nineteenth century, the presidential household kept glasshouses on the property to grow flowers and plants for rooms and tables inside. The card records no date, so the exact year is unknown, but the scene shows a period when the executive grounds also functioned as a working garden.
