The Pantheon in Rome is the subject here, a building whose domed concrete roof has stood since the reign of Hadrian in the second century. This glass negative comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the archive of the Bain News Service, a Manhattan agency that distributed news photographs in the early twentieth century. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption cards the agency wrote itself, so it has not been independently checked. The temple's oculus, the open circle at the top of the dome, is worth looking for in any view of its interior, since it is the building's only light source.
