The title pairs Mrs. Edwards and Frl. Kussin with boxing, which sets this negative apart from the many sporting pictures in the Bain collection. "Frl." is the German courtesy title for an unmarried woman, a reminder that the agency's captions often recorded names as they were given to photographers. George Grantham Bain's News Service supplied images to New York newspapers in the early twentieth century, when women's participation in sports still drew press attention. The record gives no date, and the names come from caption information the agency wrote on the negative, so they should be read as provisional.
