Christ Church in Boston's North End, erected in 1723 and now widely known as Old North Church, is the subject here, and the title singles out its bells as the first ring cast for North America. The steeple's bells were rung for generations, and the church is most famous for the lanterns hung in that steeple on April 18, 1775, a signal about British troop movements toward Lexington and Concord. The card credits John H. Bufford & Company, a Boston lithography firm, but records no date for this view.
