The subject of this glass negative is an Oldsmobile, one of the earliest American automobile brands, which was built in Lansing, Michigan, from the late 1890s and became part of General Motors in 1908. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio in Washington, D.C., made large numbers of negatives of this kind around 1920, so the picture reflects how automobiles were documented for publication and commerce in that period. The title comes from unverified notes on the negative sleeve, so the car's exact model and setting are uncertain. Visible streaks and blemishes are typical of aging in the original glass coatings.
