This negative documents the Ku Klux Klan in Pittsburgh in August 1925, when the Klan had considerable membership in Pennsylvania and across the North, not only in the South. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm that recorded news events and sold prints to newspapers and the public, made the exposure on glass, a common medium of the period. Its title and date come from the company's own notes and related negatives, so they are best read as a working record. Streaks and blemishes from deterioration of the original coating are visible across the plate.
