Stretched across a single wide frame, this 1905 panorama captures an entire ballgame and the crowds packed into the stands around it. In those years the Pirates played on Pittsburgh's North Side at Exposition Park, where fans rode streetcars to watch a club built around shortstop Honus Wagner. Panoramas like this were a popular way to record civic gatherings, and the density of the crowd shows how central baseball had become to working-class city life.
