Few posters of the period addressed immigrant women directly, and this lithograph from January 1919 was made for the YWCA's division serving foreign-born women. Its title, "For United America," reflects the wartime and postwar push to assimilate newcomers into American life. Illustrator C. Howard Walker designed it, and the Carey Print firm of New York produced the color stone-printed sheet. Printed only weeks after the armistice, it shows how war-era patriotism carried into the Americanization work that followed.
