The Wawona Tunnel, carved through granite on the Wawona Road south of Yosemite Valley, is the subject of this 1933 set of plan, elevation and section drawings. The tunnel's western portal opens onto the view now known as Tunnel View, which frames El Capitan, Bridalveil Fall and Half Dome, so the road's engineering and its scenic payoff were planned together. Drawings like these show how engineers laid out the bore, its cross-section and its approaches, and they record how the Park Service shaped its roads during the 1930s.
