Roosevelt's home at Sagamore Hill, near Oyster Bay on Long Island's north shore, was where he spent much of the time after leaving the White House in 1909, and the title points to that setting. The Bain News Service, a New York picture agency, supplied photographs like this to newspapers in the early twentieth century, when the former president drew steady press interest. The record gives no date, and the title comes from agency caption information that has not been independently verified. Glass negatives of this size were standard press equipment of the era, and they keep fine detail.
