Little is recorded about this particular view beyond the title "Autry, New York, 1924," which the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve and which has not been independently confirmed. The company produced a large body of early twentieth-century views of American towns, cities and landmarks, many meant for sale to the public and to publishers. Donated by Herbert A. French in 1947, this glass negative shows streaks and blemishes from deterioration of its original coating, a reminder of how fragile these plates were.
