The record names only the place, Johnson, New York, and that title comes from the negative sleeve and has not been independently verified. The image is from the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm that produced large numbers of commercial views of American towns and streets in the early twentieth century, many for use in illustrated publications. Herbert A. French gave the glass plate to the Library of Congress in 1947. Streaks and blemishes across the surface come from the original coating breaking down over time, so parts of the image are softer than the photographer intended.
