A 1924 glass negative labeled "Hoyt, New York" is the sole subject named in this record, though the title came from notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified. The company, based in Washington, D.C., produced large numbers of views of towns and cities across the United States for postcards and publications in the early twentieth century. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. Visible streaks and blemishes are the result of the glass plate's coatings deteriorating over time, which is worth keeping in mind when judging the image's clarity.
