The only identifier for this negative is the surname Kaufman, taken from caption cards that the record itself describes as unverified. No date or place is recorded, so the subject can't be pinned down from the file alone. The negative does carry the marks of a working press operation: the Bain News Service, based in New York, made glass negatives of people and events in the early twentieth century and supplied prints to newspapers. Glass plates like this one are fragile, and their cracks, emulsion, and edges can tell you about how the image was handled over time.
