Times Square, then called Longacre Square, took on its present name in 1904, when the *New York Times* moved into the Times Building at its center, visible here. The Hotel Astor, which opened on Broadway in 1904, stands at the right edge, and together the two buildings helped turn the district into a center for theaters, hotels, and nightlife. This view is a copy of three joined prints, so the seams between sections are worth noticing. The street-level detail also shows how the crossroads looked in the years between 1910 and 1930.
